He Quit School, Built Africa's First Flying Taxi, and Now Teaches Kids to Invent
Morris Mbetsa grew up in poverty in Mombasa, Kenya, raised by his grandparents. He was obsessed with electronics from age six, dropped out of college because he couldn't wait 4 years for a degree, and taught himself engineering through the internet. By 2018, he had built Africa's first passenger drone — a flying taxi. Since then, he's founded Numeral IOT, transitioned to the U.S., and launched Inventing School to teach kids how to identify problems, design solutions, build prototypes, and bring real products to market. In this episode of MaalBridge, we sit down with Morris to talk about his early life, how Kenya's education system shaped (and limited) him, his earliest inventions, his transition to America, Loqey, and his vision for Inventing School.
